Evidence-Based or Research Proven Instruction

You may be asking yourself, what is an evidence-based instruction?

Evidence-based interventions are instructional techniques that are research tested and proven to work effectively and efficiently for students.  Evidence-based interventions are based on scientific inquiry.  This type of research involves the (1) “application of rigorous, systematic, and objective procedures to obtain reliable and valid knowledge relevant to education activities and programs (NCLB, 2001).”  They are (2) supported by a body of research studies with similar effect on student achievement.  Last, evidence-based interventions have (3) empirically demonstrated links to a studies desired outcome.

When implementing evidence-based practices (EBP), the professional wisdom of teachers' is critical to adapt to changes within a school.  Teachers' wisdom can also involve adapting evidence-based instruction in the many areas in which research evidence is absent or incomplete (Whitehurst, Grover J., 2002).
